North Okanagan Region 2026 On-Farm Composting Workshop and Field Day
Thursday, October 15 - 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Cambium Cider Co. (4667 E Vernon Road, Vernon, BC)/Smith Family Farm (6852 L&A Rd., Vernon, BC)
This workshop is being put on by the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Food. It covers on-farm composting practices and will be partially classroom learning at Cambium Cider and partially on site at the Smith Family Farm.
Topics covered will include:
- The science behind composting,
- How to start composting and what you can put in your compost,
- How to properly site and construct a compost pile,
- How to use compost as a replacement for synthetic fertilizer,
- The benefits of compost for soil health and fertility,
- How to determine application rates, timing and method for using compost,
- Information on soil testing, and
- Regulatory considerations of on-farm composting.
